Robin Crumley

Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2020 Hall of Fame Inductee

Robin Crumley

Robin Summerlin Crumley has been involved with the Boys & Girls Club movement for the last 34 years, beginning with her service as a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County. Robin was introduced to the Boys & Girls Club movement as a part of her participation in the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce. Robin soon feel in love with what the organization represents and how they were providing a place for hope and opportunity to many children, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances.
During her tenure as a board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County, Robin was instrumental in strategic planning, helping to ensure that policies & procedures were in place for the management of the organization, and assisting with board governance. She served on several board committees, as chairwoman of the Personnel Committee and as the Chairwoman of the board of directors for the organization.
In 2011, Robin’s involvement with the Boys & Girls Club became her occupation as she was installed as the President & CEO of the Johnson City/ Washington County organization. The organization had gone through a period of decline in leadership, facilities, financially and in programing. Robin worked with many individuals to rebuild the organization from the ground up. She started with the facility and under her leadership they made many improvements inside and out. She worked to find top notch youth development professionals to lead the programs and activities and she challenged her board to recruit new members, work on funding measures to grow the Club and rebuilt the organizations reputation as the place to bring your child for after school and summer program activities. One board member stated that they do not think the Club would be what it is today had Robin Crumley taken over as CEO of the organization. Robin credits many for the organizations growth, but everyone knows it was her blood, sweat and tears that got them to where they are today.
Over the course of her tenure, Robin has helped to instill a sense of confidence & competence in both the members of the organization, and the staff. Robin has helped to bring the Club to a place of consistency and achievement. Of special importance, she led the design and building of the ‘Tree House’ calming room space which has been a valuable addition to the social & emotional wellness objectives of the organization and has been an early navigator and proponent of understanding the child’s social and emotional wellness as part of their overall health and well-being. Robin has assisted with spearheading Trauma Informed Care as a guiding principle for the Johnson City organization and other like-minded local organizations and continues to prioritize collaboration in TIC across community partners. She is very involved throughout the region with other organizations to provide more services to the children of East Tennessee.
In 2014, Robin oversaw the organization’s partnership with KABOOM! as they worked with local stakeholders to provide a new and safe playground for the Johnson City community. Robin strives to ensure that every member within the organization is seen as an individual and makes it a point to know every Club member personally. Additionally, Robin ensures that the staff members she has been entrusted with are stewarded well and assists with their ongoing development into future leaders within the Boys & Girls Club movement. She works to create a true family environment with both staff and youth.
In January of 2020, Robin was honored by the organization as the Champion of Children in recognition of her unwavering devotion to the children of the Johnson City and Washington County community. Robin recently added the title of grandmother to her impressive resume and looks forward to ensuring that the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County is well positioned to impact our community for generations to come.
