Dennis Inman

Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2021 Hall of Fame Inductee

Dennis Inman

Dennis H. Inman has served on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown for 31 consecutive years now. He has served as the Chairman of the Board (CVO from 2002-2004), Vice Chair of the Board (2000-2002), Chair of the President’s Council Executive Committee (2004-2006), has served on various committees and has been a leading donor and fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown.
Dennis’ interest in and support of the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown extends way beyond his financial generosity, outstanding leadership, legal expertise and consistent attendance at board meetings. Dennis has mentored several Boys & Girls Club members, volunteered at special club outings for members like his annual fishing trips and assisted his church with the renovation of the Boys & Girls Club’s kitchen. In addition, he has been influential in connecting our Boys & Girls Club with other foundations that make sizeable annual contributions to our organization.
Perhaps his most notable contribution has been his involvement with the Boys & Girls Club Foundation of Morristown, which is a separate 501(c)3 organization. The foundation’s sole purpose is to raise resources to support the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown and its over 1600 annual members. Dennis is a charter trustee (18+ years) and has served as President of the Foundation since 2012. He has been very instrumental in establishing and serving on the Foundation’s Investment Committee, revising the Foundation Bylaws and helping raise over three million dollars for the Foundation.
Professionally, after graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1970, Dennis worked with the law firm Taylor Inman Tilson & Reams for 14 years. In 1984 he was appointed Chancellor of the Third Judicial District in Tennessee by then Governor Lamar Alexander and served for 11 years. In 1995, he was appointed by the President to be the Federal Magistrate Judge of the Sixth Circuit and he served in this position for 20 years.
Dennis has received the highest honors the local Boys & Girls Club provided including the Golden Youth Award (2002), the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Service to Youth Award (2003) and the President’s Award (2004).
Dennis has been married to his wife Jacqui for 50 years and they have an adult daughter Sharon (Stan) Greene and two grandsons (Samuel and Sean). Dennis is also a member of First Presbyterian Church where he serves as an ordained Elder. Dennis has also volunteered with Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency where his service included being involved with the planting of over 100,000 trees along with other projects due to his love for the outdoors and forestation. His environmental stewardship shows his love for nature and a more beautiful community.
Dennis Inman is truly the kind of committed and effective Boys & Girls Club volunteer that deserves, but does not seek, state-wide recognition for his many contributions to the Boys & Girls Club and the community. He has truly been a friend to the youth of Morristown and Hamblen County for many, many years and he is a big reason the Boys & Girls Club of Morristown is the community leader that it is today. According to Boys & Girls Club of Morristown Executive Director John Seals, “Dennis used his experiences as a Judge in seeing juvenile offenders to take a proactive stand in addressing problems and concerns of the children of his community. By becoming actively involved with our Boys & Girls Club he is making sure he has a positive impact on a child at an early stage in life. In the years of service he has provided to our organization there is no doubt that he has steered many children in the right direction. His work with our Boys & Girls Club has without doubt kept many children off the streets and out of trouble. For Dennis that is validation that he has achieved the goals he set for himself when becoming involved in our mission.”
