Carla Bewley

Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee

 Carla Bewley

Carla Bewley is a lifelong resident of Greeneville & Greene County. She graduated from Greeneville High School and then graduated from the University of Tennessee. Carla is married to T. Anthony and they have three grown children. Carla worked at Tusculum College (now Tusculum University) for a few years and now serves on the Board of Directors at Heritage Community Bank where she is very involved in the bank operations and was one of the founding board members of the bank. She has been very active in the banking business. She has made it a point to hire local people, to promote local business and to serve our community in the best way possible.
Greeneville & Greene County is a great place to live and that is due to the hard working people of our community and our great community volunteers. When I think of the top echelon of volunteers, Carla Bewley comes to mind front and center. Her volunteer efforts have brought about significant change to our community through many organizations. Whether it be schools, youth organizations, civic clubs, her church or the local museum- she looks for ways to help the organization grow. Then, she puts her full efforts into making the organization the best it can be to better serve our community. I know from her work with the Boys & Girls Club that she is a tremendous volunteer asset and from my research for this nomination, I know others feel the same way about her community volunteer leadership efforts.
Carla Bewley has been involved with the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County for over 20 years with the last 19 coming as a member of the Board of Directors. She helped start the local mentoring program at the Club and quickly made her mark with the organization being named the organization’s Board Member Rookie of the Year in 2005. Carla has been named Board Member of the Year by her local peers 3 times, the leadership award 5 times, the Extra Mile award 3 times and other awards at our annual Board Appreciation Dinner during her tenure for the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County. Outside of our community, Bewley has won the BGCA National Service to Youth Award, was named the Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee Board Member of the Year in 2010 for all of her efforts towards children throughout Tennessee and in our community and was the 2018 recipient of the W. Clement Stone Outstanding Achievement Award from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional performance and service as an individual local BGCA Area Council Committee member which results in Area Council transformation, deeper impact, and more meaningful service to board leadership of a state-wide Area Council. Carla’s tireless work with the Tennessee Area Council set a standard for the entire country and that is why she was named tops in the nation for her statewide volunteer work. Carla has served on the Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee Board of Directors and the Tennessee Area Council board of directors. Carla is a Past President of the Tennessee Area Council and has served on a state board for the past 15 years. Bewley has also attended numerous Youth of the Year events in Nashville and Tennessee Area Council Events over her tenure. She just completed a 3 year term on the Tennessee Hall of Fame board filling two unexpired terms.
Awards do not show all that she has done for our organization. She has chaired committees, traveled to Tennessee Boys & Girls Clubs Area Council and Alliance events, served as a mentor to our children and served as our board president for three terms. Carla is currently the Co-Chairman of our Capital Campaign as we work to develop property that was donated to our organization. Carla has been one of our most active board members over the past 19 years and she is one of the reasons that our Club has had the success it has during that time. She has spent countless hours helping with many Club programs and activities. You can always count on Carla to do her part and more. Carla helps set up with the activity and the clean up after the event. She really believes in our mission and the children we serve. In all, she has given over 40+ years of service and leadership to our community in various volunteer capacities.
