Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2021 Hall of Fame Inductee

Bob Kesling

Bob Kesling has been involved with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley for nearly 30 years. Bob’s connection to the organization has been primarily with the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame event, the Knoxville organizations longest standing event that has raised over 4 million dollars. Bob has served as the Master of Ceremonies since 1993 for the event. He continues that tradition today, as well as, serving as a member of the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame Board. In 2008, Bob served at the Chairman of the Board. During the last 30 years, Bob has become a critical part the event’s success. Not only does Bob write the full script of the show, he helps secure noteworthy speakers that drive ticket sales.
In addition to his involvement with Knoxville organization, Bob provides support to other Boys & Girls Clubs across Tennessee. Bob has lent his name to the Bob Kesling Boys & Girls Clubs Celebrity Golf Classic for the past 18 years -a golf tournament that raises funds for Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County. Bob has also entertained local Greeneville crowds as a guest speaker for their One Campaign and as the MC for their Champions Dinner. Bob has also served an event speaker or emcee for various other Clubs across the state including the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County, the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County, the Boys & Girls Club of the Smokey Mountains and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport, to name a few. Bob is a true Volunteer that is always ready and willing to help with any good cause.
Bob has used his time outside of radio and TV to truly make a difference in the lives of thousands of young people who attend and benefit from the life changing work done at these Clubs. Throughout his career, Bob has used his platform, as a member of the media and Voice of the Vols, to better the Knoxville and surrounding communities. As a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bob was paired with a middle schooler named William. Bob saw the potential in William that William did not see in himself. Bob and his wife Tami devoted years to mentoring William. When talking to a close friend of Bob’s about his relationship with William, it was said, “Bob saved William’s life. William is in the Navy now and is making a career from it. I don’t think that would have happened if Bob wasn’t in his life.”
In 2015, Bob was awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Award – The Man & Youth Award for his work with Clubs in Tennessee. That is one of the highest honors that an individual can receive from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. That same year, Bob was inducted into the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. Bob has also been named the Tennessee Sportscaster of the Year in 1992, 1995, 1996 and 2002. In 2007, Bob was presented with the C.A.R.E. (Children Are Reason for Excellence) Service Award by the Tennessee Area Council for his volunteer work with Tennessee Boys & Girls Club organizations.
