Bobby Greene

Boys & Girls Clubs in Tennessee - 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee

Bobby Greene

Bobby Greene is an alumni of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region (Cleveland, TN) and has been an active board member for the past 36 years. Bobby currently serves as the Board Development Committee Chair and is a past President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region primary board.  Bobby also serves as a Tennessee Alliance Board Member, where he has been a part of the Resource Development Committee.  Bobby Greene is known for his heart of service and has a deep giving spirit for the Club and when asked, he shares what the Club did for his personal life and how he sees it as “paying forward.”  He has painted, cleaned, and repaired equipment, on days the Club was closed so that no one would see him working on behalf of the kids.  His  volunteering is more of a personal and spiritual gift than work. Mr. Greene is highly engaged and checks in often with the CEO and CVO to ensure operations are functioning as they should at the local Clubs.

Bobby Greene was introduced to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland around the age of 10 years old.  His days at the Club are highly memorable to him and he often talks about those experiences when advocating for the movement today.  His heart for the Club started during his youth and was eventually recognized as Cleveland’s Boy of the Year.  He talks of past staff as though they were his immediate family members.  Although he had some personal family obstacles, he still talks of his “storybook childhood” because of the time he spent at the Club. Because of his memories and his recognized deep appreciation held for the Boys  & Girls Club, Bobby was asked to serve on the Board of Directors for the same organization he grew up in.  He has served on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region for 36 years, where he has been  secretary, chair of board development committee, and a past president.  He is also currently an active board member of the Boys & Girls Club Tennessee Alliance, offering leadership and valuable input on behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs across the state of TN.  Bobby Greene’s heart and service has gained recognition from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where he was recognized as one of the strongest board members from across the nation.

His accomplishments and recognitions include him receiving the President’s Award from the Cleveland, TN organization in 2007, a National BGCA Medallion in 2008, Board Member of the Year for Cleveland in 2015, Board Member of the Year for the state of Tennessee in 2015, Board Member of the Year for the Southeast Region in 2015, and is a past graduate of the national ALP program.  Although Bobby has an extremely appreciative spirit, he is best known for his heart of service, many times coming to the Club to paint, landscape, or clean privately so not to seek praise from anyone.  Bobby supported and help guide several local Youth of the Year winners so they could experience advancing and has lead two youth to become Southeast Regional Winners in both 2010 and 2013.  Bobby Greene is known for being a man who cares for his wife, Pam, and the perfect dad to his two sons, Bradley and Kyle.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region has been greatly blessed by his engagement, his heart, his service, and his high standards.  Bobby is intentional and quick to remind those connected to the Boys & Girls Clubs as to “Why” we do this work and how rewarding it can be for both those we serve and to those who serve.  Bobby Greene is an amazing person increasing our faith that there are still some GREAT people in the world.
